Andrew Polich

I am a storyteller and adventurer--communicating complex ideas to mainstream audiences. My goal is to help good ideas achieve new levels of engagement and impact. The projects I've worked on are diverse--conflict resolution, grid resilience in the Caribbean, energy efficiency, and non-profit fundraising. Below are some of my content highlights. Enjoy!

The content is diverse. Some articles and blog posts are written by me but there are also articles and podcasts that were co-authored and collaborations. I've done video projects for Vittoria Energy Expedition and Lenoir-Rhyne University. While in Asheville (2018-2020), I did freelance communications consulting. This included writing a series of blog posts for the Blue Horizons Project and Quiz Fundry, helping the Guastavino Alliance research and communicate with prospective member organizations (600+), and managing Hotspot Documentary's Facebook and Instagram accounts.

The input and edits of friends, family, and colleagues was critical.

New Series on Energy Efficiency in Commercial Buildings

My name is Andrew Polich and I’m pursuing a Master of Science in Sustainability Studies at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Asheville. For my capstone project, I decided to collaborate with The Blue Horizons Project and focus on communicating local success stories in greener buildings. My goal is to help Blue Horizons Project in its mission to help promote energy efficiency and renewable energy throughout the region by using what I’ve learned in my studies.

What Cause Will You Champion?

Nonprofit and charitable organizations are dedicated to furthering particular social causes or raising money for those in need. They institutionalize what an individual or group can accomplish. They help provide jobs for fellow do-gooders and can bring legitimacy to the work. For example, these organizations have reporting structures--often boards--that help keep the organization on mission and maximize impact. Below are some examples of charitable organizations from the LLS Foundation.

How Recycling is Done: Curbie Tour in Asheville

Have you ever wondered what the industrial recycling process looks like? Well, we've got a facility right here in Asheville. The Lenoir-Rhyne University staff/students went on a tour or Curbie, a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) located in Woodfin. We were joined by students from AB-Tech and staff from Greenworks to learn how our daily items find new homes, what we can/can't recycle, the appropriate size for a recycling operation for our area, and that plastic bags really mess up big machines.

Unlocking the Human Brain for 21st Century Cures

The event, “Unlocking the Human Brain for 21st Century Cures: New Partnership Models to Tackle Brain Disorders, from PTSD to Opioid Addiction,” featured a panel discussion between Congressman Upton and experts on brain disease related to sports, military, and drug addiction. Topics included the urgent, unmet need for new treatments to improve the lives of individuals suffering from brain disorders, and the economic toll of these disorders. I helped organize the event and drafted this press release.
